Benefits Of Seniors Owning Pets

petAs we stated before in our previous post, we’re constantly looking for homes for rescued animals.  We understand that not everyone is in an able place to adopt a pet.  However, we’re here to tell you about the benefits of owning a pet, especially if you’re a senior.

Pets offer many benefits to its owners.  They’re cute, cuddly, and can be a great companion.  There’s a reason why so many seniors own pets or would like to own pets.  Pets often help reduce stress, lower blood pressure as well as helping people increase physical activity.  A pet can increase a senior’s activity just by walking with them a few times a day.  It’s also always more fun to walk with a pet than by yourself!

Other benefits of owning a pet as a senior is the companionship they provide.  There are times when seniors will feel lonely and perhaps even become depressed, but having a pet’s companionship may help them become more lively and engaging with others  Oftentimes, seniors in homes are allowed to own pets as long as they take care of the pets themselves.  Other times, seniors may hire assistance for in home care just so they are able to house a pet.  There are also many benefits for the pet too.  They get to be well cared for, have a home, and make a new friend.

Before deciding to adopt any pets, there are a couple of things people should be aware of.  You want to make sure you meet your new pet before adopting them.  Pets need to get to know you just as much as you need to get to know them.  Some couplings turn out to be perfect and very suitable, but there are times when the pet and the person just might not get along.  If you have at and in home care for seniors requiring assistance, make sure the caregiver also meets the pet so that they’re able to get along well too.  Sometimes they might even be the primary person taking care of the pet, so we always want to make sure that they’re also compatible.

Another thing to think about is the age of the pet.  Although puppies and kittens are adorable, for seniors, they might not be compatible.  Depending on who you are, you could definitely make it work, but puppies especially have tons of energy.  You’ll need to play with them and take care of them more than a dog that’s been trained and is an adult.

These are all things to think about if you want to adopt a pet.  There are tons of benefits, no only for seniors, but for everyone who is an animal lover!

Housing For Animals

Welcome to Chambres Alsace Jura. We are a group of people focused on providing homes for animals who have been abandoned or have no home. You have no idea the number of animals that will get abandoned per year. Each year there are more and more. If you are thinking about getting a new pet, please consider adopting one instead of buying one from a breeder. There are many animals who need a home, and people just want the newest and shiniest puppy or kitten. Instead of buying a cute puppy, go ahead an adopt a cute dog!

There are so many benefits of having pets. They’re great around children and elders, and they just bring joy to everyone. Dogs are great if you lead an active lifestyle. Just remember, if you’re getting a dog, you’ll need to make time for them. If you’re just looking for a companion, cats are great for that! Many seniors adopt cats because they’re easy to take care of and are also great for a snuggle.

Please do some research before purchasing any pet, and make sure you have the proper requirements. If you don’t think you can handle the responsibilities of having a pet, do not get one. If you’re thinking of adopting a pet, check us out for more info!
